The logo refers to the title of Mechthild’s book: “The Flowing Light of the Godhead”.
It shows a woman wearing a veil (Beguine and Cistercian), who becomes mature finding a self-responsible language in the whirl of the flowing light. The red month highlights the maturity and indicates the divine eros.
The book, which is facing her, identifies Mechthild as its author. The book cover lies in the shadow and symbolizes the dark and secretives parts in Mechthild’s history.
The darkness expresses the insatiable desire for God that impelled Mechthild.
The achievements of the Beguine Mechthild as a historical figure and thus the unwritten stories of the poor remain hidden in the dark of oblivion.
The page facing Mechthild is illuminated. The scorched corners of the book tell about the fire of ecstasy that the book radiates. They are also remembering of the threatening aspects of the publication:
“If one did not watch out, it could be burned”. (FL II, 26)
